"Didn't feel as inclusive as I expected"
I thought Penn State would feel a lot more welcoming, but that wasn’t really my experience. There was plenty of talk about diversity in emails, posters, and campus messaging, but day to day it didn’t always feel like that showed up in a real way.
Some people were genuinely nice, but overall it felt like you had to find the “right” group or just deal with feeling out of place. And when concerns came up, it felt like everyone expected you to be patient forever while not much actually changed. For a school that talks so much about inclusion, it was disappointing.

"I went on Penn State World Campus thinking..."
I went on Penn State World Campus thinking I’d be able to find a program that matched what I had in mind, but from my perspective, the choices felt limited. A lot of them sounded really similar to me, or just kind of broad, so I had a hard time seeing which one would actually fit my goals.

I’m sure the site might work fine for someone else, but for me, it got frustrating quicker than I expected. I was hoping to see more specific paths and clearer differences between programs, but I didn’t really feel like I found that.

"Something feels off with this site"
Using psu.edu was way more frustrating than I expected. Pages would load weird, basic info took forever to track down, and half the useful links felt like they were hidden on purpose. Maybe I’m being dramatic, but for a school this big, you’d think the website would be way smoother unless they’re trying to make you give up before you find anything. I usually left the site annoyed and feeling like I’d just lost a small battle.

I just didn’t feel comfortable walking around the area. Especially at night. A little unsettling. They really need to do more about safety

"The online classes were kind of a..."
The online classes were kind of a mess for me. The lectures kept freezing right in the middle of stuff, and whenever I needed help, support took forever to get back to me. It just felt frustrating and not really worth the tuition, in my opinon.

"I was disappointed with the dining options on..."
I was disappointed with the dining options on campus. A lot of the food felt overpriced, and too often it was either cold or just the same few things over and over. The lines were also a mess during normal meal times, and somehow the better spots always seemed to be closed right when I actually needed food. It kind of felt like they didn’t plan well and then made it the students’ problem to deal with. For how much we pay, I expected a lot better. I got over eating there quickly.

"Alumni network could be a lot better"
I don’t want to be unfair, because I’m sure there are alumni out there who are helpful and some people probably have a good experience with it. But my experience with the psu.edu alumni network has been underwhelming. I expected it to be easier to connect with people, especially for career advice or job leads, but it mostly felt like you needed to already know someone to get anywhere. A lot of the links or groups I came across seemed inactive, or they were mostly just promoting events instead of offering real support. For the amount students pay to go there, I think it’s fair to expect a stronger and more useful alumni network. It was disappointing overall

"Still waiting for admin to follow up"
I’ve reached out to the admin office several times about what should be a simple records issue, and I keep getting passed from one person to another. Emails take way too long to get a response, phone calls don’t really lead anywhere, and no one seems clear on who’s actually responsible for helping. At this point, I’d at least expect an apology for the runaround because it really shouldn’t be this difficult to get a basic answer.

"Support was... not exactly helpful"
I needed help with my Penn State login and, you know, totally fine, I only got passed around for days. The replies took forever and mostly felt like copy-paste answers that didn’t actually fix anything. For such a big school, I was expecting tech support to be a lot more useful

"Feels more like a big name than a great experience"
I thought Penn State was going to feel a lot more impressive, mostly because people talk about it like it’s this unbeatable school. But once you’re actually paying attention to the day-to-day stuff, it doesn’t always match the reputation. Little things started to bother me, like how everything feels very branded, from the signs to the merch to the way people talk about the school, but the actual experience can feel kind of impersonal. Maybe it’s the right fit for some people, and I get why the name carries weight, but from what I’ve seen, it feels overhyped.

"Felt overlooked as a student"
Student life just wasn’t great for me. I found it really hard to make friends, and weekends could feel lonely. It also felt like when I tried to bring it up or get involved, people kind of brushed it off, which made the whole experience feel even more isolating.

"The student advising experience was kind of a..."
The student advising experience was kind of a mess, haha. I kept getting sent from one person to another, emails took forever to get answered, and it felt like nobody really knew which classes I actually needed. I ended up figuring most of it out on my own, which was disappointing for such a big school.

"Classes felt a bit underwhelming"
I was expecting a lot more from the classes. The professors often seemed rushed, and the feedback I got was minimal. I also expected quicker responses when I had questions, which made the overall experience feel less supportive. For the price, it just didn’t really feel worth it to me.

I expected a bit more for the price, it just doesn’t feel like the value is there.

"Anyone else find it hard to navigate?"
I keep getting confused by the menus every time I use it. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like it shouldn’t be this hard to find what I’m looking for

"I had a frustrating experience trying to..."
I had a frustrating experience trying to get help from the financial aid office. Email responses took longer than I expected, and when I called, I was transferred a few times without really getting a clear answer.
I understand they’re probably handling a lot, but it didn’t feel like my specific situation was being looked at closely. Since I was already stressed about tuition, the back-and-forth made things harder than I hoped it would.

"Professors didn’t seem that knowledgeable"
The professors in my classes didn’t really seem to know the material that well. Yikes. It felt like they were kind of figuring things out as they went, which made the classes frustrating.

"Nice campus overall, but there’s room to improve"
Penn State has some really nice areas, especially the libraries and quiet study spots. My sister visited with me once and even mentioned how parts of campus looked. That said, a few buildings feel old and crowded, and parking can be a real hassle. The food options are okay, but nothing that really stood out to me. Overall, it gets the job done, but I expected things to feel a little more organized and easy to navigate.

"Dorms are just okay"
The rooms themselves are fine, nothing amazing but livable. The frustrating part was maintenance. Whenever I reported something, it felt like I was being brushed off or like it wasn’t a big deal, and it took longer than it should have to get help. Overall, it’s okay, but I didn’t really feel heard when issues came up.

"I tried using PSU career services thinking it..."
I tried using PSU career services thinking it would help make the job search a little easier, but it just felt like more work. Replies took forever, the advice was super vague, and I didn’t get any real help finding opportunities. It seemed like something that should’ve been straightforward, but they somehow made it frustrating. Pretty much a waste of time.
